about the Band
story

Giant LuScA is a music group conceived in 2008 by Giancarlo Rendina in the Seminole Heights neighborhood of Tampa, Florida. (He was born in Tampa, by the way.) This is predominantly a vehicle for his expression. Yes, it is a kind of bedroom recording, indie, or whatever pejorative you like. Nevertheless, the songs are good and are worth a listen. The Lusca (namesake) is a cryptid in the form of a giant octopus. The beast has Caribbean origins, specifically imagined on the islands of the Bahamas. Florida really is a piece of the Caribbean just barely attached (for now) to the mainland of the United States. Caribbean lore does permeate into the culture of Florida, and so the adoption the lusca moniker is attractive. Cryptozoology is a window into the thoughts, behaviors, and beliefs of people. The music of Giant LuScA is mostly about belief systems and acknowledges the aggression that is (frequently, unfortunately, but naturally) expressed by the human animal. It explores the tendrils of human thought. This music is about the confusion, anger, passion, innovation, and creative spirit that resides in all of us.
A point of clarification. There is (or was) a band from Germany called Lusca. In fairness to fans of either group, it needs to be stated that Giant LuScA is a separate, unaffiliated entity. Giant LuScA has been named this way as a method of distinction, a kind of Dinosaur Jr. move. (Giant here being the Jr. in this equation.) Conversely, the seeming hubris and redundancy is additional humorous content. A lusca after all is already legendary and giant-- This musical group is unknown & let's face it, pretty small right now.
